The Atlantic Coast of Algarve is definitely the landmark of this farewell stage of the Transportugal Roads.

But before you get to the ocean, you have to leave the mountains of Monchique behind you… and Monchique is the vivid proof that the Algarve is so much more than just sun and beach.

Leaving the hotel, the route will take you up for a long, but not too steep climb with unique views of these wonderful mountains. At its top, on a clear day you will be able to take a glance over the Atlantic Ocean at the south coast of Algarve.

On the country road at the plateau, through lush greenery the route will take you on a never-ending descent of about 20 km  until you face the beautiful water reservoir of Odiaxere.

The sense of peace and tranquility of this reservoir is indescribable.

After the reservoir, the route leads you into the wild, where it is hard to feel the presence of Man beyond  the road you’re riding on. Some small, very small, white villages can be seen at the top of a short climb here and there, but the route keeps its way mostly through lonely and forgotten hilly roads. After a smooth climb, soon you’ll be at the top of another,  smaller, Mountain Range called Espinhaço de Cão.

With a wide and open landscape, the route will take you west,  closer and closer to the Ocean. The smell of the salty water and the beaches will hit your nose and you will start noticing some surfers and their unique happy vans. You’re now cycling inside the Natural Park and the landscape is changing dramatically.

A few more kilometers and you will find out why Sagres is called The World’s End. You will love Sagres, the ocean and the feeling of accomplishment that will overcome you with overwhelming force and will stay with you for a very long time.

Congrats… you crossed this old country riding your bike for more than 1.000 km.

We really hope that Transportugal Roads has lived up to your expectations!!
