We hope you, as well as your friends and family are well as we continue this long battle through the COVID pandemic.
This Terrible Uncertainty we’re living has now impacted Europe and has created a whole lot of anxiety amongst all of us, participants, staff and partners.
We have been monitoring the consequences of this new Delta variant of the virus on the development of restrictions around the European borders. In fact, as far as we can anticipate, Portugal, as well as many other countries, is not willing to lift most of the restrictions before the end of the summer. Unfortunately, the slower than anticipated roll out of vaccination program within Europe has meant we are still experiencing sudden outbreaks and quarantine periods all around, as well as several different approaches regarding the pandemic control between countries. Besides the fact that this new Delta variant presents an ultrafast spreading.
60 days from the start of the race, we’re still living in fraught times, full of doubts, indecisions and fear all around, but specially in our oficial institutions who are responsible for the licensing of these kind of events - mixing amateur sports activities with tourism - namely the 46 counties which our route crosses, Portuguese Cycling Federation, National Health Department, Natural Parks, Police, etc. By now, we should had some positive signals witch we don’t. On the contrary, we still have a lot of open issues.
This doubts, indecisions and fear into which our country has plunged, are severely hampering our preparations for an event like Transportugal, that lasts several days and on top that with international participants.
As a result the Transportugal ROADS Organisation, with such lack of answers and clarifications, can no longer provide any guarantees that we will be able to deliver what our participants and partners are expecting form us. The last thing we want, is not to meet the high standards our athletes are used to… with great disappointment we are advising you that Transportugal ROADS will be postponed until October 2022. Better safe than sorry!!
as his year’s event and it's making near on impossible to go on with our work in such an international and long event as Transportugal ROADS. International participants, several days and crossing 46 counties along the country… a true nightmare.
We believe the Transportugal ROADS should be a once in a lifetime experience for many of our competitors… and thas the way it should be experienced!
