Our first words are about you, your families and friends… We wish all of you the very best of health in this strange and challenging times.
With our hearts full of sorrow, we have to tell you that Transportugal Europcar Race 2020 will not take place due to the current Covid-19 global crisis. Unfortunately, we’re still living in a tight and full lockdown that afectes us all.
Facing the present situation with flight restrictions all around, the fact that our National Authorities doesn’t commit with us with an answer, in time, to what conditions should we ensure for an event like Transportugal Europcar Race take place in May - we cross the all country - and the fact that all the services who have to issue legal licences are working under 50%… we have to be cautious and in conscious conclude that we have to cancel our race.
This event, probably like no other, is a mix of tourism and competition. It’s an event that demands from our riders countless hours of preparation, and demands from our Organisers a special careful preparing all the logistic details. The uncertainty regarding the end of the lockdown, and not even know if the lifting of that lockdown will be nationwide or only in some region(s) it’s huge, and we cannot anticipate a scenario where we can go on with the Race we know, for which we are known worldwide, and for which we have been fighting for.
We feel worn out and tired. As an Organisation that is proud of its Race and its country, it’s with a broken heart that we have to communicate the cancelling of Transportugal Europcar Race 2021. However, we are confident that this decision takes into consideration the welfare of the cyclists, staff, communities, sponsors, teammates, families, and friends.
It is obviously our intention to keep the event for the years to come. Our Race, we think, have its image untouched, since we have been guided by a sincere communication with our athletes, fans and several partners. We do not anticipate that the desire to ride our bicycles will disappear, quite the contrary… So as soon as the social and sanitary conditions improve, we believe that cyclists from all over the world will once again fill our trails with joy and enthusiasm.
In May 2022 we will once again be here, ready to cross our country with the same quality with which we usually welcome all those who honor us with their presence.
We have to keep fighting this pandemic situation, we will prevail, and we will ride our bikes again, crossing this unique country called Portugal, feeling the warmth of our people and our weather.
We wish you all the best…
For now, we will comply with the health rules so that the country - and the world - can get back to full living.
